Okay, so when you shoot an Acadia National Park Engagement session in MAINE with two of your really good friends (and really good looking), you’re bound to end up with 100’s upon 100’s of pictures, so I decided this is going to be broken up into 3 sections this time because we shot for three days!!

When we got up to Maine, Heather went into town to get her hair down while we ate some New England Clam Chowder for lunch. When her and Eric were ready, we strolled through Bar Harbor and walked along the shore path. Sooooo this is where things start to get interesting. If you’ve ever been to Maine, you know that the difference between high tide and low tide is just CRAZY. We were shooting, I guess, what was the end of low tide in a giant field of seaweed on the rocky shores of Bar Harbor. I told Heather and Eric I think it would be a cool shot if they “went over on that rock over there, far away!” so they happily complied. From where I stood, it looked like there was all rock leading out to the spot I envisioned them standing. While they were walking, I asked if there WAS in fact land and Heather yelled back “Nope! But it’s okay I can get over this water onto this rock!” And then as Eric attempted to help her onto the rock he was standing on, everything fell apart in slow motion and they BOTH went waist deep into the water!! INTO A FIELD OF SEAWEED! So there I am, kind of horrified, and simultaneously trying not to laugh (really trying to figure out if I should be laughing or crying) and then I hear them both burst out laughing, and get right up onto the rock in question. So then, after we cleared that Heather was okay minus a few scratches and bleeding on her leg, I determined I wasn’t fired and we started shooting! And holy smokes! You can’t even tell that they are soaking wet and these pictures are just gorgeous! I think, if we all had the choice to do it over again just the way it happened, we would all do it. As I was shooting, the tide crept in REALLY quick and I found myself a few inches deep in a seaweed field as well. We all ran out quick back to dry (ish) land and Heather and Eric were pretty stranded out on the rock so they, again, got in the water (on purpose this time!) to get back to the rocky shoreline.

So this is how the session started and it was a grand adventure if I’ve ever heard one. But the thing is, this perfectly describes Heather and Eric’s relationship- Adventurous, full of laughing things off, and pure joy. They didn’t skip a beat for a single second when this happened and for that, I couldn’t be more thankful! My couples know that I do ANYTHING to get the shot, and this just proved that they do too!

Heather and Eric met in the LAX airport on their way to Australia and New Zealand for a study abroad program. She spotted him looking at a map trying to figure out how to get to the international section of the airport and noticed his gigantic backpack (a clear sign of a world traveler) and went up to him and asked if he was in the program. He made a corny joke about their big backpacks which made her laugh and he says it was love at first sight. However, oddly enough it took a while for the relationship to form. After weeks of being friends, Eric confessed his love to Heather and she returned the feelings. Their first date was snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It was the first time they held hands and Heather says she literally felt a spark when they touched.

And let me tell you friends, that spark? It hasn’t left at all. These two are the perfect match. They are best friends, each other’s support system, and are constantly aiming to make the other one laugh. I know Eric from college (he was Scott’s roommate!) and he was always very quiet and kept to himself. When Heather came into the picture you could immediately tell they had found their true loves in each other. They brought out the absolute best in each other, and made it a very clear goal to always put each other first. They are completely comfortable around each other and have already built a beautiful life together in New Hampshire where they reside with their adopted, wonderful dog Tennessee and their adorable cat, Nox!

Words cannot express how thankful and happy and honored I am that I could be the one to document this true love. The way they look at each other and make each other laugh without even saying anything is something I will always remember and I am so blessed to call them friends!

After exploring bar harbor and the shore path, we were ready to chase golden hour on the cliffs by Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The weather had a change of plans though and the thickest fog I’ve ever seen rolled in! We rolled with it (pun intended!) and I’m seriously in love with these shots!!
